Information Services Division (ISD) supports the University’s teaching, learning, research and administration activities, through the provision of innovative, high quality services, including information technology support and systems, library, administrative and learning resources. The University of Salford is seeking a selfmotivated professional to lead the implementation of an Institutional Repository in support of the University’s research. Based in the Services & Operations Unit the postholder will create, develop, administer and promote the Repository, and will be required to communicate and work effectively with staff and researchers across ISD and the University. Educated to degree level or professional equivalent you will have excellent interpersonal, project management, advocacy and technical skills and familiarity with the HE environment. Knowledge and understanding of developments in Open archive initiatives and Institutional repository developments would be an advantage.

Full Time (Two year fixed contract) Reporting to: Collections Development Manager Job Purpose: The Post holder will be responsible for the implementation and day to day administration of the Institutional Repository (IR). Liaising with internal and external partners, you will be responsible for populating the repository, ensuring appropriate metadata tagging. You will advocate the use of the repository through training and publicity activities. A proactive approach and collaborative working will be essential. The culture and ethos of the post is directed towards customer service. Main duties of the post are to: 1. Take responsibility for planning and the establishment of Institutional Repository 2. Liaise with chosen software suppliers, Research & Graduate College, ISD colleagues and with other HEIs 3. Gather content for the IR to support RAE 2008 4. Provide training, support and guidance to content providers and end users 5. Contribute to the development of IR related Policies 6. Contribute to forward planning and service development for the IR 7. Co-ordinate copyright clearance permission activities 8. Co-ordinate the creation of metadata for IR content 9. Manage access to the repository through direct administration, liaison with Information systems Unit and setting up administrator’s rights for specific user communities 10. Produce usage reports, statistics and other management information as required 11. Represent and promote IR within the university and at appropriate external forums 12. Bring to the attention of managers any matter relating to health and safety of both staff and customers. 13. Undertake other such duties, at any ISD location, as assigned by the Director of IS or his representatives.
