RSP Summer School: A resounding success!
UKOLN and the DCC are partners in the Repositories Support Project (RSP), a major initiative from JISC to support the development and growth of the repositories network in the UK. The RSP recently held their inaugural Summer School for prospective and new managers of institutional and subject repositories in the beautiful surroundings of Dartington Hall, Devon. We are delighted to announce that the school was a resounding success, delivering a comprehensive overview of the practical challenges and solutions to effective repository implementation and establishing a close-knit community that will continue to receive support from the RSP over the forthcoming year. Feedback from the event has been excellent, with one delegate commenting ‘I have learnt more from this single event than I have from 2 months of looking up IR sites’, and another that ‘if I don't know what to do […in the future…], I know I've got support from RSP and participants at the event’.
Presentations will be available from the RSP website. Plans for subsequent schools are already in the pipeline and will be announced in due course.

Call for papers - towards an European repository ecology at ECDL 2007
The Repositories Research Team will be running a workshop at ECDL 2007 (http://www.ecdl2007.org/). Entitled 'Towards an European repository ecology: conceptualising interactions between networks of repositories and services', the workshop will present an ecological approach to repository and service interactions and allow participants to consider its usefulness to their local setting and to the wider networks they participate in. It will begin to identify existing components of the European repository ecosystem, and highlight opportunities for repository and service interaction with that ecosystem. It will also attempt to identify gaps in the ecosystem where key components are missing.
As part of the workshop we are looking for presentations (and subsequent papers) from those involved in the development or implementation of repositories and services that will illustrate the potential benefits of this approach. We are asking for position papers of no more than one page of A4 (around 500 words).
For further information about the workshop and the call for papers see: ECDL2007Workshop:Towards an European repository ecology.
