About the Standard: oaidc is an XML format for the serialisation of Simple Dublin Core metadata descriptions. The format is defined as a "metadata format" for use within the Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH). OAI-PMH requires that data providers support the oaidc metadata format.

Maturity: The oai_dc XML format has been widely deployed by implementers of the Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH).

Risk Assessment: oai_dc provides a serialisation format for the Simple Dublin Core application profile. That DC application profile supports the creation of simple metadata descriptions, and is designed primarily to support simple resource discovery functions.
