Overall Comments
- Good mix of topics, well planned and very useful.
- This was my first and very enjoyable. As Marieke said at the beginning the networking was important and gave me a good overview and intro to issues relevant to HE/FE-a new arena for me.
- Outstanding and probably life changing
- The best one I've been to (I've been to at least 4). Majority of the content was relevant and challenging. Gave me something to take away with me.
- A really good friendly conference - and busy!
- Inspiring and motivating-had given fresh impetus to accelerate implications of new expectations
- As ever a good place to meet people
- Not sure title quite reflected the content! But I know how tricky it is to invent a theme..
- Excellent as usual
- Good varied programme with lots of choice to pursue interests in parallel sessions. Speakers of excellent quality
- It addressed issues my institution are currently facing. Great ideas and areas of collaboration shared by all
- Very good. Better content than previous years
- As always well organised and an excellent opportunity to catch up with what new in other HE's
- Excellent-but I should have been called Web 2.0-not that I'm complaining about the content
- Annual reality check. The best way to keep abreast of development and issues in the sector and to meet/network. Well organised as ever
- Workshop was really interesting, very relevant topics and all sessions inspired good debate
- As usual well organised and very interesting. This is a fixture in my teams calendar and we always try to get as many people to IWMW as possible
- Finished too late. Normal hours 9-5
- Good one! Enables excellent networking/appreciation of up to date issues and topics
- Excellent once again. This is my 7th year and I look forward to the next
- Eye opening, informative and well worth it. This was my first such conference and I've found it very useful
- Most valuable event of the year. Well done!
- Better than I had expected
- Very useful this year-relevant, thoughtful and lots of discussion
- Very good. Very useful to meet the people who are doing the things that we are considering
- Excellent. Good venue, thought-provoking debates
- Useful, informative and entertaining
- Very useful although not all areas were directly relevant to me , it wad good to get an overview of all that is going on in the sector
- The calibre of the presenters was excellent. The event gets better and better
- Very good. Will definitely come back
- Interesting and relevant range of topics, but the quality and the content of the plenary talks was very variable. The Q&A sessions were useful but often there wasn't enough time
- Excellent opportunity to find out what's happening in other organisations and meet people in similar roles
- Overall excellent but once again I'd like to make a plea for at least one hard core techie session on some new emerging technologies
Top Three Aspects
- Good mix of topics, well planned and organised
- Meeting people and networking, hearing about how Web 2.0 was implemented at Uni of Wales and feeling a part of something larger than just my institution
- Interaction with peers, high quality presentations by people enthusiastic about their job
- Networking, case studies and A5 parallel session
- Contact with wide variety of people with common web interests, current practice feedback and soft networking
- Presentations/discussion on Web 2.0, document v content debate and networking
- Understanding Web 2.0 implications, seeing wider picture of where we should focus and getting new ideas and networking with contemporaries on other institutions
- Meeting all the other people in the same boat with the same problems
- LSE talk and 'building game' in parallel session
- Networking with peers, learning new things and chance to 'step outside' everyday work and think more broadly
- Meeting colleagues, seeing new technologies and learning new ideas to take away and use
- Michael Webb's talk, Brian Kelly's talk and parallel session A
- Web 2.0
- Plenary talks, networking/socialising with other web teams and the sword dancing!
- Networking and what is Web 2.0 and its implications for HE
- Really good that workshop rooms and lecture theatres were so close together
- Networking, discussion groups (enjoyed this more than previously) and plenary talks
- Being given he opportunity to get something back was great. Lots of work that I've carried out has been inspired by talks here or made easier by collaboration with people I've met here
- Networking, sharing experiences and catching up on technology/developments
- Enthusiasm of delegates to implement 2.0
- It brought me into the 21st century
- Discussion with peers about problems, similarities and limitations in institutional web
- Previous years I've come away from IWMW with firm practical advice. This year has been much less practical and much more thought-provoking. I've found this incredibly, refreshing and helpful. Also having discussion forums split by surname and focussed on a particular question was much more useful than the open-ended discussions of previous years
- Web 2.0 potential - practical strategies for achieving this
- Thoughtful plenaries, case studies, not too much 'forced participation'-felt natural
- CMS presentation very useful
- Find out about ISO9000-1, discuss microformats and live clipboard
- Practical skills gained through parallel sessions, networking, examples of use of Web 2.0 technologies (though usually not enough explanation)
- Wonderful fast wireless network
- Networking, sharing problems and Web 2.0
Things Which Could Have Been Improved
- Patchy wireless access
- rooms for the discussion groups were too hot and the furniture was not arranged in a way that provoked discussion
- Discussion group needs an icebreaker
- Accommodation was noisy, planning of group activities on parallel sessions, internet connections in bedrooms
- Not enough seats for everyone in plenary sessions, would have been good to be into accommodation on arrival
- Bed was terrible. Would have been good to be able to attend more than 1 parallel sessions as there were more than 2 I was interested in
- Internet access in bedroom, would probably have engaged more with online conference stuff if we'd had this. Would have liked more focused talking time - BOF's? symposium?
- Questions posed to discussion groups didn't seem entirely relevant/focused. The debate would have benefited from debate.
- Not sure about the discussions but we do need to break out. Can't think of a better way to do this at the moment
- Didn't think the discussion groups were very interesting. Maybe replace with topic-based discussions. Ask people to prepare in some way for the discussion?
- Some of the lectures didn't grab the imagination
- Could offer sessions focussed on audiences' level of understanding i.e similar content but basic-advanced level. This would have been useful for new technologies (blogs, skype, voip etc)
- Accommodation - very lumpy bed
- Don't feel we talk enough about using the web as a marketing tool, how users use the web, levels and type of info people want
- Unfortunately we had limited success connecting on the wireless network. Access form the halls would have been handy.
- I would have preferred the Friday am debate to have allowed for questions - a real debate- to get more depth. The discussion group part 2 could have been omitted to facilitate this
- Too high up the hill
- Not keen on people having wireless access in main lecture hall because most people seem to use them for unrelated activities
- Balance of areas covered in the parallel sessions could have been better-lots to chose from in A, less of interest in B
- Workshop dinner/BBQ was disappointing. Groups were too spread out so chatting was difficult. Its nice to have the networking over the formal sit down dinner
- Could have more debate
- The discussion groups could have been chaired better -too much focus given to a small number of the group
- Better access to PC facilities for people without laptops. Could not edit my presentation on the library PC's-no USB port
- Lecture theatre a bit cramped and hot the first two days
- Discussion groups might be better with just one session and 3 parallel sessions. Few people contribute to the discussion sessions but there are too many good parallel session to pick just 2 from
- Open same software talk, good but heard 2 years ago
- Wireless networking-I had a PC and a PDA, neither of which would work (despite excellent support). Lack of network in halls.
- Earlier start for breakfast. Didn't think the 'Quality Matters' theme was really explored. Still think discussion groups too long and wishy-washy
- Lack of towels and toilet paper in the flats. Towels not changed, room not cleaned. Key didn't work properly
- CMS discussion not in enough depth-debate not shared with audience enough
- Discussions and feedback. Too much time on this and hearing the same things half a dozen times not useful. Perhaps should just summarise online?
- V poor ventilation in lecture theatre!
- Discussion group lacked focus. Wasn't clear at the start what we were trying to do. Needs a skilled facilitator
- Lost my parallel sessions bookings (electronically)
- Would have liked to have had Web 2.0 more clearly defined. Would have made good use of more time.
- Parallel Session B. No Wifi in halls. Lecture theatre fat too hot ( and a bit too squashed)
- 3 minute summary for discussion session is too short
- Balance of parallel sessions/plenary talks not right-an extra parallel session would be useful-perhaps a repetition of topics (had to choose 1 to of 8). Discussion groups not really useful at all.
- Too techy-more of a marketing/comms input. Cut down presentations-more time for panel discussion/debate
- Would like a wonderfully fast wireless network!
Additional Comments
- Delighted I could connect to my email on my psion. Sorry I couldn't access the web browser or send email. Very good overall.
- Thanks I have enjoyed this more than other conferences
- Very good. Please carry them on
- I think its too short. One more day please
- Excellent
- Lovely venue, very good
- Be good to have sessions aimed at specific audience type e.g. marketing people might not be techy so intro to Web 2.0 tech v useful. Likewise mkt info to webmasters. Otherwise good, perhaps more signage from car parks
- Well done. Looking forward to next years workshop
- Coming from the North West it was tiring to travel down early and then sit through talks until 6pm. I don't think sessions should run after 5pm and think accom should have been available on Tues eve to allow people to travel down and feel refreshed for workshop
- Having been several times I find the discussion groups still the weakest part. Otherwise, excellent.
- Enjoyed as always. Lovely location
- Well done all. Really good workshop this year!
- Discussion groups- Miles Banbery's always excellent at facilitating and was good again.
- More case studies please. Accommodation was quiet. Thanks
- It would be useful to set up a form for .ac.uk web managers/developers-this came out of our discussion session for collaboration
- V good. Will be back next yeear
- Get some managers and marketers here next time
- Wish I had laptop with me to collaborate and more time to explore Web 2.0
- It would be nice to see people frtom maketign ere-perhaps target them when advertising the event? How about a summary report for senior managers (1-2 page)?
- Too many speakers over-running. Not enough scope for questins/debate
- Would be useful to have the CMS discussion again next year. As a result of Any Powells talk, maybe next year a talk from some JISC person on e-Frameowrk would be useful
- several ideas for discussion/paper etc for nexy years IWMW
- Would have liked soft drinks during the refreshment breaks
Admin, Catering, Social etc.
- Accom and catering comfortable and enjoyable. Admin very good, thank you
- Food generally not too bad. BBQ disappointing. Should have fruit/herbal teas as an alternative in this day and age. Bottles of water would also have been good.
- workshop admin very efficient. Catering not great but I guess its what you expect from a Uni canteen, which is OK, really!
- generally very good with knowledgeable staff. Would have been good to either get into room early on day 1 or to have worked a break around day 2.Thanks for the football!
- Admin was well run-maybe make clearer that event didn't start until after lunch as some had to start off very early to get here by 11am. Catering good -maybe could provide fruit/decaff teas at tea breaks
- Food uninspired. Accommodation - Available on arrival and keys from conference reg desk would have been nicer
- The bed was uncomfortable. Everything else fine. Nice to be on campus with everything close together
- Good food. Excellently organised.
- Best student accommodation so far!
- Catering-well its university catering-not bad. Very good room.s Very well organised
- Catering poor, but I'm a veggie and get fed up with the same old.
- Fine except BBQ was in a underground carpark!
- Admin-very good. Catering-Ok but hot breakfasts were cold by 8.20 and not as good as last year.
- Catering excellent, admin gat. No negatives
- catering, accom and organisation all excellent
- The admin and organisation was generally brilliant. I didn't go to any of the social events but the daytime catering was awful
- Get some air conditioning
- Impeccable
- Can something be done to tidy up the number of pieces of paper we are given. Perhaps a booklet of plenary notes?
- Very well organised and catering was fine
- Very good, no complaints. Synchronising with accommodation check in/out would be nice
- Admin good. Catering do. Accommodation below par even allowing for it being student digs
- Admin good. Catering average. Accom good
- BBQ was cold-but rest of catering was very good. Drinks sponsers did very well!
- Admin and technical staff couldn't have been more helpful. Catering ok but not brilliant. Rooms very good.
- The visit to the baths was great - a fantastic networking opportunity
- Bath is a great town!! I especially enjoyed the Roman Baths
- Barbecue was a nice change. Roman Baths was interesting
- Barbecue format good for networking and moving around
- This really makes the event - very appreciative of the opportunity to see the baths and Bath itself
- Roman Baths excellent!
- I even liked the band!
- Loud band very annoying
- Rapper dancing - Brian does it again!
Parallel Sessions
- Philip is a real livewire!
- Very good introduction putting things into context
- Good session
- Great fun
- Will try and get colleagues to look more at existing Web 2.0 sites and services
- Review Web 2.0 and where it is going to see how it is going to fit into our current model
- Can now recommend appropriate use to Managers
- Light hearted, well planned
- Lots of examples of how wiki's might be used
- Will encourage the use of wiki's within the team
- Now have clearer understanding of the opps of RSS usage
- Not enough time for practical work
- Ran out of time
- We're going to use RSS forms now
- we now need to persuade marketing that RSS is useful to them
- Was re-enthused to do something about search
- Will review current user testing plans and introduce improvements to current task instructions
- I found out what Microformats actually are - real world usage rather than hype
- I'm definitely going to tell people and experiment with microformats
