Brian Kelly has recorded an online presentation on Social Web For Libraries which will be included in an online resource on "Libraries in a Digital Age" to be published by Henry Stewart Talks.

Abstract

This talk provides an introduction to the Social Web and describes its potential for those working in libraries.

The talk reviews the development of the Web, from its roots in providing access to static informational resources through to the development of what became known as 'Web 2.0' through to the 'Social Web' with its emphasis on connections.

Biography

Brian Kelly, UKOLN, University of Bath, Bath, UK.

Brian Kelly works for the Innovation Support Centre at UKOLN, University of Bath. In his role as UK Web Focus Brian advise the UK's higher and further education communities on best practices and innovation for exploiting web technologies.

Brian has published papers on various aspects of web developments including web standards, preservation of web resources, web accessibility and web 2.0 and the social web.

Brian has given invited keynote presentations at international conferences held in Sweden, Taiwan, Singapore and Australia.

Brian makes use of a variety of social web services to support his professional activities including his UK Web Focus blog and his @briankelly Twitter account.

In 2007 Brian received the Information World Review's Information Professional of the year award. In 2011 he was the runner-up in the Computer Weekly Social Media Awards in the IT Professional Blogger of the Year category.
