Talk: Monitoring and Maximising Organisational Impact using the Social Web

Title
Monitoring and Maximising Organisational Impact using the Social Web
Speaker
Brian Kelly (UKOLN)
Abstract

The Social Web is becoming accepted as a valuable tool for use by information professionals. It can be used for a wide range of purposes including engaging with one's user communities, engaging with one's peers, providing cost-effective hosting of services, allowing content to be easily reused in the users' preferred environment, viral marketing, etc.

But how do we measure the effectiveness of our use of the Social Web? After all, despite hearing examples of successful use of the Social Web, not every use will necessarily be successful. There will still be a need to identify the desired aims of use of Social Web services and to have in place mechanisms for ensuring that the aims are being achieved.

This talk will review ways in which a variety of Social Web services (such as blogs, Twitter and social sharing services) can be used and outline approaches for monitoring their effectiveness in achieving their desired goals.

Date And Time
The talk is part of the "Resource Management" session on Monitoring and maximising Organisation Impact which was held on Thursday 14th October 2010 from 11:45-12:30. The talk lasted for 20 minutes.
