Brian Kelly gave a 50 minute talk on "What Can the Social Web Offer The Heritage Sector?" at the "ASVA 2008 conference". The talk took place from 13.50-14.40 at the Dunblane Hydro Hotel, Dunblane, Scotland on 13th November 2008. This event was being organised by ASVA (Association of Scottish Visitor Attractions).

Abstract

This talk on "What Can the Social Web Offer The Heritage Sector?" will explore ways in which blogs and social networks can help to engage with the user community, maximise outreach activities and promote the interests of organisations working in the visitor attraction sector.

The talk will describe "the Social Web", will provide an introduction to blogs and social networks are and provide examples of how they are being used within the visitor attraction sector. Examples of best practices will be given and strategies for overcoming institutional inertia to the establishment of blogs will be provided.

Biographical Details

Image of Brian Kelly Brian Kelly is UK Web Focus, a post funded by the JISC and the MLA which advises the UK's higher and further education communities and museums, libraries and archives sector on best practices in use of the Web. Brian is an experienced presenter and has spoken at many conferences and seminars and organised many workshops. Brian works at UKOLN, a national centre of expertise in digital information management, which is based at the University of Bath.
