Brian Kelly gave three 2-hour lectures at the II Workshop on Web Enabling Technologies for Scientists held in Trieste from 11-20 November 2002.

Summary

The lectures were on the theme of providing organisational Web sites. The following scenario was used:

Delegates are assumed to have responsibility for providing a Web site to support a small group of scientists within their organisation. The aims of the Web site are to:

Inform visitors about the group and the group's activities.
Provide information about group members.
Provide information about group deliverables.

The following lectures were given:

Introduction: An introduction to the presentations.

Planning Your Web Site: This lecture addressed the purpose of the Web site, models for running a Web site, structuring your Web site, tools for managing your Web site, etc.

Evaluating And Benchmarking Your Web Site: This lecture looked at ways of evaluating your Web site and benchmarking the Web site by making comparisons with similar Web sites. The lecture described typical problems which can be identified and outline appropriate solutions. The lecture outlined a number of quality assurance procedures which can be adopted to minimise difficulties.

Futures For Your Web Site: This lecture looked at ways in which your Web site can develop in the future. It outlined recent developments in Web standards such as XML and discussed their relevance.
