Summary

One main area that libraries would talk to their patrons is in reader development. Perhaps telling them that a new book is now in the library by their favourite author. The back office technology will soon be available ... how can I use this. Maybe RSS could be the technology for this.

Another area is using podcasting to load recorded lectures onto our web site.

Another key opportunity is to automate issuing of emergency messages such as lecture cancellations using SMS.

Discussion lists for community of practise ( e.g. Archives Sector SW) could be developed to overcome the distance facing practitioners and restricting contact.

Reflective journals could be developed using BLOGs to serve a similar purpose. Confidentiality could be an issue. However they could also be used for consultation. Integrating Environments could be used to give a voting facility.
