Purpose
The post will provide management and research input to the JISC-funded SCARP project as part of the Digital Curation Centre (DCC).
Reporting Structure
The post is based at UKOLN and will be located within the DCC Community Development Team, with local line management through the Research and Development Team Leader.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- To co-ordinate and provide project management for the DCC SCARP Project.
- To carry out a literature review of the selected disciplinary landscape
(currently planned to be architecture and engineering) and relevant data curation
and digital preservation policy and practice.
- To acquire and analyse information about stakeholders and users attitudes,
needs and requirements through participation in site visits and survey methods.
- To conduct a series of in-depth case studies working in partnership with
practicing researchers in the chosen disciplines and to report on findings.
- To co-ordinate and contribute to a summative synthesis study which brings
together experience and conclusions from the various disciplinary case studies.
- To collaborate in the organization and delivery of dissemination workshops
which are aimed at sharing experience and knowledge of disciplinary curation
practice.
- To produce best practice guidance and resources which seek to enhance the
skills of disciplinary practitioners and researchers.
- To develop and maintain an awareness of digital curation topics (e.g. preservation
strategies and workflows, appraisal and selection, preservation metadata,
repository developments) both for the purposes of the project and to feed
into other related work at UKOLN.
- To contribute to other DCC activities as appropriate.
- To participate in dissemination activities to raise awareness of DCC outcomes
amongst target audiences.
- To attend JISC concertation activities as DCC representative as required.
- To ensure project deliverables are of high quality and are delivered in
a timely fashion.
- To ensure progress within the project by pro-actively liaising with all
partners, giving special regard to the distributed nature of the DCC across
four partner sites. Due to the distributed nature of the DCC and the need
for the postholder to attend relevant internal and external meetings, it is
envisaged that some travelling will be involved.
- To report internally and externally on project progress.
- To liaise with related external projects and initiatives.
- To participate in DCC cross-team seminars and other dissemination activity.
- To liaise with activity associated with UKOLN and the DCC and exploit synergies.
- To undertake other relevant activities as indicated by the Team Leader.
Contacts outside UKOLN and the University
To work in close partnership with DCC colleagues at the distributed sites.
To collaborate with JISC staff, JISC services and JISC funded projects, and other relevant national and international organizations such as the Digital Preservation Coalition.
