Colin Steele


Colin Steele is University Librarian at the Australian National University in Canberra, a position he has held since 1980. From 1976-80 he was Deputy Librarian at ANU and from 1967-76 Assistant Librarian at the Bodleian Library, Oxford. From 1983-1987 he was Chair of the Australian National Word Festival. The University Library position at ANU is classified as a Professorial Dean and has responsibility for various campus wide IT activities. Colin Steele has been an invited speaker at library and information conferences in the UK, USA, South Africa, China, Singapore and Taiwan. His book publications include Major Libraries of the World (1976), Australian Tertiary Libraries (1992) and Changes in Scholarly Communication with Professor D.I. Mulvaney (1993).

Colin Steele gave the Follett lecture entitled "New Romances or Pulp Fiction? Do Libraries and Librarians have an Internet Future?" on 24 April & 26 April 1995.
