[UKOLN] Stories From the Web logoStories From the Web

Project Aims

This project aimed to stimulate the imagination of children and encourage them to share, explore, read and enjoy stories in a geographically distributed, collaborative network environment.

The partners developed a web site which provided a rich interactive environment in which children in the age category 8-11 were given the opportunity to access books and stories, meet authors, interact with publishers and communicate with each other. They explored computer literacy skills in an imaginative story-telling environment with the aim of encouraging children to read more and to share their views on the books they read.

The project aimed to record how the development of these services affects the manner in which children, their parents, the media and the council officers perceive the library. Principal deliverables were a service model and technical framework for a children's library service and a research report documenting user behaviour, impact on the library services and other findings.

This project developed from UKOLN's Treasure Island web site.
