Background

Why an advisory service?

If the digital resources developed by nof-digitise are to be accessible to as many people as possible, available for as long as possible and deliver the greatest value for money then it is important that the technical development of these projects is rigorous and based on good practice. If a project is to be successfully implemented then the development of its technical framework should be integral at all stages.

Technical decisions made at all stages will impact on the quality of the resources developed by the project, its costings and even its viability. The development of the nof-digitise standards (which every project must adhere to) has gone someway to helping projects make the right technical decisions during their planning stages. However, for many organisations developing and implementing their projects will still involve a steep learning curve.

nof-digitise may be the first time that many applicants have put together a digitisation project proposal. In-house skills and experience of digitisation projects may still be developing. NOF, therefore, recognised that some organisations may benefit from technical help when developing and implementing their projects. The technical advisory service is now run by UKOLN, in association with the AHDS. It will provide support mainly via e-mail and its Web site. The technical advisory service will be freely available for all nof-digitise Programme participants to use.

What can it help me with?

The nof-digitise technical advisory service will help all applicants with advice on developing the technical aspects of their bids.

The service will

  • provide guidance on the technical standards document and its implementation via e-mail, the telephone or through this web site.

  • provide links to further information on relevant topics

  • attempt to answer general technical queries

The service will not

  • recommend system suppliers or digitisation agencies

  • review or comment on your written application

  • write your application for you!

How do I contact it?

Please contact the advisory service in the first instance using e-mail. The e-mail address for the advisory service is nof-support@ukoln.ac.uk. The web address for the advisory service's web pages is http://www.ukoln.ac.uk/nof/support
