The following organizations play key roles in the cultural heritage sector, whether by providing funding, setting strategy and policy or supporting professionals working in the sector.
Funding and Strategy
- Arts Councils - national development and advocacy agencies for the arts:
- Heritage Lottery Fund - invests funding raised through the National Lottery in projects to sustain and transform the UK heritage
- MLA - the government agency for museums and galleries, libraries and archives.
- Prism Grant Fund - The Fund for the PReservation of Industrial and Scientific Material (PRISM Fund) supports the acquisition and/or conservation of any object or group of objects illustrating the history of any branch of science, industry or technology.
Museums
- Collections Trust - provides information on cataloguing and curatorial concerns for museums.
- Culture24 - a not-for-profit online publisher, working across the arts, heritage, education, and tourism sectors.
- Museums Association – represents the people and institutions constituting Britain’s museums and galleries.
- National Museum Directors' Conference (NMDC) - represents the leaders of the UK's national museums and galleries.
- UK Registrars Group (UKRG) - a forum for communication and co-operation between museum registrars and professionals in other fields related to the work undertaken by registrars.
Libraries
- Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) - the leading professional body for librarians, information specialists and knowledge managers.
- Society of College, National and University Libraries (SCONUL) - promotes excellence in library services, in higher education and national libraries across the UK and Ireland.
Archives
- National Council on Archives - brings together the major bodies and organisations, including service providers, users, depositors and policy makers, across the UK concerned with archives and their use.
- Society of Archivists - the principal professional body for archivists, archive conservators and records managers.
International
- Culturemondo - a network of people who are all running, managing, building or editing cultural portals around the world
