Web 2.0 and Social Networking for Museums, Libraries and Archives

MLA London Workshop 14 July 2008

Background

Stephanie Taylor and Brian Kelly were speakers and facilitators for a workshop on "Web 2.0 and Social Networking for Museums, Libraries & Archives" held at CILIP, 7 Ridgmount Street, London WC1E 7AE on 14th July 2008. This event was organised on behalf of MLA London. Further information is available on the MLA London events page.

Abstract

Web 2.0 and the Social Web are terms which are now being used widely. But what exactly do these terms mean? And what, if anything, can Web 2.0 and the Social Web offer to museums, libraries and archives - especially small organisations with limited budgets and technical expertise?

This workshop, which is being organised by UKOLN, a national centre of expertise in digital information management, will attempt to answer these questions. As well as demystifying the terms and the technologies, the workshop will also address the challenges which institutions may face in seeking to make use of Web 2.0 to support the needs of their users.
