Standard Numbers

Standard numbers are used as unique identifiers for a variety of materials in the library and book trade communities.

ISBN (International Standard Book Number)
A unique machine-readable identification number for books defined in ISO Standard 2108 (1972).

ISMN (International Standard Music Number)
A unique machine-readable identification number for published music defined in ISO Standard 10957 (1993).

ISMWC (International Standard Musical Works Code)
A unique, permanent and internationally recognized reference number for the identification of musical works.

ISNI (International Standard Name Identifier)
An international identification system for the persons and corporate bodies involved in the creation and production of content entities.

ISRC (International Standard Recording Code)
A code to provide unique identifications of a sound recording.

ISSN (International Standard Serial Number)
A unique machine-readable identification number for serials defined in ISO Standard 3297 (1975).

ISTC (International Standard Text Code)
A code to provide unique identifications of a textual work or part of a work.

SICI (Serial Item and Contribution Identifier)
A code to provide unique identifications of serial items (e.g. issues) and the contributions (e.g. articles) contained in a serial title, defined in ANSI/NISO Z39.56-1996 (Version 2) (1996).
