INSCRIPTION
INSCRIPTION is a collections of 'wordlists' maintained by FISH. It provides tools for comprehensive and consistent indexing of different aspects of the built and buried heritage. Four types of wordlist are maintained. Simple Worldlists consist of a set of indexing terms, each with a precise meaning. Hierarchical Wordlists are organised in a hierarchical structure, allowing records to be indexed with a specific term but found and retrieved using a broader term. Complex Wordlists have several components; a chosen term is supplemented with additional detail in the record. Thesauri are the most complex form of wordlist and enable flexible indexing for records, by supporting hierarchical sets of terms, together with relationships to non-preferred equivalent terms and to related terms.
