Workshop On 'A Holistic Approach To Web Usability, Accessibility And Interoperability'

Title
A Holistic Approach To Web Usability, Accessibility And Interoperability
Abstract
There can dangers that simplistic approaches to accessible Web design will fail to take into account wider usability issues, and vice versa. Similarly there can be dangers that addressing accessibility and usability issues can fail to technical interoperability factors.
This workshop aims to provide a holistic approach to Web usability, accessibility and interoperability issues. By the end of the workshop delegates will have gained a understanding of usability, accessibility and interoperability issues and of methodologies for developing accessible, usable and interoperable Web sites, even for those on limited budgets. Specific areas which will be addressed include WAI accessibility guidelines - their strengths and weaknesses; usability testing include use of multiple browsers and configurations, structured usability testing; and interoperability issues such as use of standards. A quality assurance framework will be described which can help to ensure that best practices are correctly implemented.
The workshop will consist of presentations and group discussions.
Delegates will receive a workshop pack containing the workshop materials.
The workshop facilitators, Brian Kelly from UKOLN and Lawrie Phipps from TechDis, are experienced presenters and have run many workshops on Web design, accessibility and interoperability issues throughout the UK, Europe and further afield.
