Introduction

Following the adoption of Conclusions on the European Digital Library by the European Commission in November 2006, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) will be organising a one-day national workshop on digitisation. The event will be held at the Royal Institution of British Architects (RIBA) in London on Monday 26 February 2007.

The Conclusions bring work on digitisation, access, preservation and intellectual property rights together for the first time. They require strategic leadership of cultural digital programmes at Member State level. They are broadly drawn and call for some national co-ordination. We consider that they can be applied flexibly and appropriately in the UK.

The workshop will be used to establish the respective roles of Government, strategic organisations, content-holders and commercial organisations.

Audience

Key stakeholders from England and the devolved administrations are invited to attend the workshop.
