UCISA WLF / UKOLN Workshop: Beyond Email - Annotation of the Wiki-test Page

This page can be used for testing the Wikalong Wiki. It is intended for use by participants at the UKOLN/UCISA Workshop on "Beyond Email: Strategies for Collaborative Working and Learning in the 21st Century".

If you've got this far, please give your name and organisation and, if you want, describe your experiences of Wikis and outline areas in which you envisage Wikis could be used.

Hi from Caleb Racey from Newcastle University. We have been using php wiki for 2 year internally and are looking at media wiki as a generic solution for use throughout newcastle

Hi, This is Lawrie. I seem to have finally been able to get this sorted. This is my first experience of both firefox and WiKis! I'm looking forward to the workshop

Hi from Matt at QAA. Looking forward to next week's workshop.

Hi from Iain at Ncl University School of Computing Science. We have been evaluating numerous wikis over the last 6 mnths. None are entirely satisfactory, but MoinMoin and perhaps MediaWiki a re 2 that we may end up using. Initial this would be for support issues, although some of the research groups would like to make use of wikis too.

Jon Warbrick from the University of Cambridge. Also finally got got Wikalong going. Fun, fun, fun.

We (one bit of the Computing Service) have been using phpWiki for a while internally. There are also a number of other wiki's throughout the University. For us, I suppose the question is: should we be running a general access Wiki for the entire University??

Hi, Dave Hassall from Bath Spa, had not heard of a wiki until a week ago so things can only improve.

Hiya, Ben Plumpton from University of Manchester, I've never used a wiki before either, glad I'm not the only one! Cheers!

Wolfger here, from around the web. I've been using addicted to Wikalong for a few days now. I think the two best uses are adding commentary to non-blog news site (like CNN articles) and discovering new things on the web (by looking at the page of recent Wikalong changes). As Wikalong grows in popularity, I'm sure the usefulness of these two features will peak and then wane as we encounter overpopulation. Until then, I'll keep enjoying and promoting this great tool!

Hello, I'm Paul Trafford from Oxford Uni and haven't used wikis before, though I'm getting to hear quite a lot, so time to dip my toe in the water...

Hello. Owen Stephens from Royal Holloway, University of London. I've been following the use of Wikis, but feel that apart from wikipedia, I haven't come across any good examples of their use. The developing ja-sig/uportal wiki (using tikiwiki) looks like it has potential - a way of consolidating information posted to the mailing list.

Hi, Paul Anderson from JISC Technology & Standards Watch. Folks might be interested in a new report we've just published on mobile and PDA technologies. This is available from our site at: http://www.jisc.ac.uk/techwatch
