Digitisation Town Meeting, April 2006

Background

Brian Kelly gave a talk on Standards For JISC's Digitisation Programme at a Digitisation Town Meeting held on 21st April 2006 at the British Library Conference Centre.

Brian Kelly and Karla Youngs, TASI, spoke in Parallel Session One, held from 13.15-14.00.

Abstract

In this talk Brian will describe the contextual model which has been developed by UKOLN to support JISC's development programmes. This model recognises the benefits which use of open standards can provide, but recognises that deployment of open standards and other best practices is not necessarily always easy. Rather than mandating open standards, which, in some cases may not necessarily be appropriate, the contextual approach recognises that in some circumstances compromises may be needed. The talk will describe how this approach applies to JISC's digitisation programme.
