This survey can give indications of the quality of the organisation's home page.
Initially the Load Time was recorded. However this was replaced by the file size as the load time is liable to vary due to network loading.
NetMechanic does not analyse the size of resources which is is barred from accessing by the Robot Exclusion Protocol. Although this information is displayed it is not available from the summary totals, and so can easily be missed.
Of the 18 Web sites surveyed in the initial survey, 1 (5.6%) appeared to have broken links on the home page. The same site appeared to still have a broken link in the second survey. However manual inspection revealed that this link (an image link) did, in fact, work.
All the site surveyed appeared to have HTML errors on the home page.
The largest Web site in the initial survey appeared to be Belfast City Council (153,908 b). In the second survey the file size for Belfast appeared to be 48,474 b. The largest Web site in the second survey appeared to be East Renfrewshire Council (147,157 b - up from 22,919 b).
