1. Purpose
Provide advice, guidance and technical support to Higher Education Institutions as part of the JISC Repositories Support Project (RSP).
Undertake consultation and dissemination activity with a range of repository experts and stakeholders.
To work with JISC Shared Infrastructure Services Programme projects and other components of the information Environment to facilitate recognition of best practice and exchange of information.
2. Reporting Structure
The post-holder will be a member of UKOLN's Research and Development Team and will report to the Team Leader for Research and Development.
The post-holder will work closely with RSP external partners.
The post-holder will work closely with the JISC Shared Infrastructure Services Programme manager.
3. Tasks and Responsibilities
Repositories Support Project
- Scope and plan the RSP work within UKOLN in consultation with the RSP partners and with input from colleagues at UKOLN.
- Prepare briefing papers, reports and toolkits, decision trees, checklists, FAQs.
- Contribute to training events, seminars, workshops, summer schools, technical information exchange.
- Prepare and undertake individually targeted site visits, walkthroughs, telephone support.
- Liaise with related repository and curation activity to exploit synergies.
- Attend relevant internal and external repository related meetings. Some travelling will be involved.
Maintain an awareness of repository developments outside of the RSP.
Shared Infrastructure Services Programme
- Undertake thematic synthesis of SIS programme outputs and support evaluation activity, to help shape future direction of SIS (e.g. inform SIS Roadmap).
- Assist in dissemination of SIS programme outputs.
- Support work of JISC Repository and Preservation Advisory Group SIS subgroup in partnership with the JISC Programme Manager.
- Encourage communication and co-operation between projects and the wider development community, including the JISC eFramework and the JISC Information Environment.
- Provide assistance to JISC and UKOLN staff working on the Information Environment Test Bed.
- Undertake horizon scanning activity in the areas of SIS, examining international developments (e.g work of OCLC and other major players) and provide synthesis of developments.
- Advise JISC on the scope and direction of future development programmes, studies and other activities, and internal and external partnerships.
- Maintain a collection of scenarios, use cases, and workflows documented in a standard format.
- Contribute to Programme meetings and Programme level workshops and conferences.
- Coordinate work of Programme related to standards and specifications, and draw out the lessons that might be of wider interest regarding interoperability.
General
- Report internally and externally on project progress.
- Participate in dissemination activities to raise awareness of project outcomes amongst target audiences.
- Liaise with related external projects and initiatives.
- Work with UKOLN teams and working groups to support the organisation's mission and strategic objectives.
- Undertake other relevant activities as indicated by the Team Leader.
4. Contacts Outside UKOLN and the University
To collaborate with JISC RSP partners, other JISC executive staff, JISC services, JISC funded projects and other relevant national and international organisations.
To collaborate with JISC Programme managers, with JISC Project and Services staff and to participate as appropriate in national and international meetings, workshops and conferences.
