The IMesh Framework - A First Workshop organised by the Resource Discovery Network Centre (RDNC) on behalf of the IMesh initiative with JISC support

Workshop Programme

PURPOSE: To explore the potential for international collaboration
in subject gateway activity, to identify useful points of contact, and to promote strategies which lever collective effort in mutually beneficial
ways. The workshop will have a facilitating chair, and a designated scribe who will produce a report.

Day one

15.00-16.00	Registration Coffee/Tea
16.00	Introduction An overview of the UK Resource Discovery Network (Lorcan Dempsey and Daniel Greenstein, Resource Discovery Network Centre, UK)
16.20	Overview of international subject gateway activity (John Kirriemuir, OMNI, University of Nottingham, UK)
17.00	Introduction to the IMESH toolkit initiative (Tracy Gardner, UKOLN; University of Bath, UK Susan Calcari/Chris Lukas, ISP, University of Wisconsin Madison, USA)
17.30	Open session - why we are here and what we hope to achieve
19.30	Dinner and mingling

Day two

09.00-11.00	Project/service reports Ten minute reports prepared against supplied template Question and answer session; discussion.
11.00-11.30	Coffee/Tea
11.30-12.30	General discussion to develop breakout agendas in following areas: architectures (technical standards, interworking, etc) content development (selection and evaluation criteria, international compatibility, national/subject, etc) business models (funding patterns, incentives and barriers to collaboration, compatibility of approaches, opportunities) Focus on motives for and issues arising out of technical, service and business interworking.
12.30-13.45	Lunch
13.45-15.00	Three breakouts in above areas. Mission is to produce a prioritised list of issues in each area and to suggest activities/actions.
15.00-15.30	Coffee/Tea
15.30-17.00	Report back from breakouts with plenary discussion in each area to validate/refine/overturn breakout conclusions. - architecture content development business models
19.30	Dinner During the evening - BOFs in identified areas to make recommendations back to next day.

Day three

09.00-09.30	Taking stock - where we have got to.
09.30	- To be decided in light of identified priorities etc.
