Introduction and Aims

JISC is currently funding programmes to progress interoperability between digital repositories, and to support institutions establishing and enhancing repositories. Increasingly it is recognised that much of the content in repositories is best handled as complex (or compound) objects.

This workshop is intended to reach a better understanding of the use of content packaging standards to describe complex objects. Delegates will be invited to evaluate the appropriateness of the various content packaging standards in the context of digital repositories.

The overall aim of the workshop is to contribute to summary guidelines on the value and appropriate use of the various content packaging standards to support the exchange of data in relation to repositories.

Delegates are invited to compare and evaluate each of the following content packaging standards in relation to scenarios relevant to digital repositories:

Delegates will be presented with appropriate and relevant scenarios demonstrating the strengths of how these standards can be used in real life situations.

Delegates will be given the opportunity to discuss each of these standards directly after each presentation and with the speakers in a panel discussion at the end of the day.

Please note that we are holding an MPEG 21 - DIDL tutorial on Wednesday 31 January. If you would like further information on this, please visit:
