UKOLN MODELS 8: integrating learning and information environments

Background and aims

The eighth MODELS workshop will be held in January 1999.

MODELS has investigated the construction of distributed library and information environments, and has developed a framework for thinking about interoperation.

The IMS initiative has been developing a framework for the open management and exchange of learning materials.

Increasingly, the learning and information domains are coming closer, driven by a user need for integrated work environments.

In the UK, significant programmes are putting in place support for the development of networked learning and information resources. These include the National Grid for Learning, New Library, the Heritage Lottery Fund, and various developments in Higher Education.

These create unprecented opportunities for the creation of rich learning and information environments.
