An Analytical Model of Collections and their Catalogues

Michael Heaney of Oxford University Library Services was commissioned to produce an analytic model of collections and their catalogues as part of the RSLP programme. His report An Analytical Model of Collections and their Catalogues is now available in PDF format.

The model has subsequently been used as the basis for the RSLP Collection Description Metadata Schema and the SCONE Collection Description Metadata Schema.

An Extension of the Analytical Model of Collections and their Catalogues into Usage and Transactions

Michael Heaney of Oxford University Library Services has extended his entity-relation model of collections and their catalogues to include modelling of the means by which users obtain access to collections.

The extended model introduces a number of additional entities and relationships, and enumerates some additional attributes for some of the entities that were present in the original model. The document also includes some illustrative examples of the transactions that occur between entities as users access collections.

His report Users and Information Resources: An Extension of the Analytical Model of Collections and their Catalogues into Usage and Transactions is now available in PDF format.

The work was supported by UKOLN's Collection Description Focus, which is funded by the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) and the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA).
