BOPCRIS: Comparison of records created by SOSIG and EnrichUK

Title: EnrichUK includes date range as part of title, SOSIG and the JISC Resource Guide for Social Science do not.

Description: EnrichUK has created a brief description tailored to its expected users, as has the JISC Resource Guide for Social Science. SOSIG has taken text from elsewhere and strung it together without editing.

NB: the JISC Resource Guide for Social Science contains only Title and Description and no other fields.

Concept: EnrichUK has re-labelled this Topics, SOSIG has re-labelled it Keywords. EnrichUK has used it's own set of terms. There is no term used by both EnrichUK and SOSIG.

Object: Not relevant to this collection

Name: EnrichUK has used a variant Related People and listed the authors of the hard-copy works used as the basis of selection of items for inclusion in the database. SOSIG does not include this field.

Place: SOSIG uses two place names in its Keywords and does not use Place as a field.

Time: EnrichUK includes several entries in Topics and does not use Place as field. SOSIG includes no time focused entries in Keywords.

Strength: Neither EnrichUK nor SOSIG use the Strength field. The text from the web shows that this is a research level collection in politics. This could be entered as free text (Political science, research collection) or by using the Conspectus scheme where level 4 is research level (Political Science, level 4 (scheme = Conspectus) ).

Language: EnrichUK has not included this field. SOSIG shows the language of the documents in the collection, as a two letter ISO code. Displaying the coded form to end users is not usually a good idea, as codes are not always easily interpretable. Code 'en' may be recognised as English but will 'el' be recognised as Modern Greek or 'sq' as Alabanian? One option is to hold the data in the coded form and use a look-up table to enable display in natural language.

Identifier: Not applicable as no identifiers have been assigned to the collection.

Physical characteristics: Neither EnrichUK nor SOSIG use this field

Type: EnrichUK does not use this field. SOSIG re-labels this as Resource Type and uses its own term.
