This presentation was given at the Seminar for New Archive Professionals at the University of Lancaster on 6th September 2006. It provides an introduction to metadata, beginning with basic principles and then giving an overview of the structure and principles of several types of metadata. The metadata types covered are: MARC21 Bibliographic Format, ONIX, Dublin Core, RSLP Collection Description and MARC21 Community Information Format.
