Purpose

  • To provide leadership and co-ordination for all internal systems support activity and to oversee the development services in and around the UKOLN intranet and public-facing websites
  • To oversee the development of services for UKOLN’s Core Funders
  • To contribute to the activities of the Software & Systems Team.

Reporting Structure

The post-holder will be a member of the Software and Systems Team and will report to the Technical Manager.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Line Management

  • The post-holder will be responsible for the line-management of UKOLN’s systems and website development and administration staff

Outward-facing service development and co-ordination

  • To co-ordinate the development and maintenance of UKOLN’s public-facing website
  • To co-ordinate the development and maintenance of the JISC Standards Catalogue
  • To co-ordinate the technical development and maintenance of the main UKOLN website
  • To co-ordinate the development and maintenance of Ariadne
  • To co-ordinate the development and maintenance of the International Journal of Digital Curation
  • To co-ordinate the development and maintenance of the JISC IE Repository

Internal service development and co-ordination

  • To provide leadership and co-ordination for systems support and development activity within UKOLN
  • To co-ordinate the development of the intranet, addressing the needs of UKOLN and its staff
  • To co-ordinate the provision of technical support for UKOLN staff
  • To develop better support processes for staff based off-site (‘remote-workers’)

General

  • To supervise the work of UKOLN’s systems and website development and administration staff
  • To provide technical support and advice across all aspects of the core-funded work programme
  • To participate significantly in the activities of UKOLN’s internal Operations Group
  • To supervise the creation of resources such as FAQs and 'how-to' documents
  • To work closely with the Resource and Administration team to develop and maintain good operational support for UKOLN, its staff and its users
  • To liaise with Bath University Computing Services (BUCS) and other parts of the University, on technical service and support matters
  • To keep up-to-date with new technical developments in the systems area and to communicate this information to colleagues
  • To report internally and externally on progress in all of the above
  • To carry out other relevant activities as indicated by the Director
