Numbers

For numbers of 5 digits or more, show thousands with commas or periods, e.g. 52,000 or 52.000
£600,000 but not as $2,340.

Numbers 1-9 should normally be written as words, 10+ as numbers, e.g. Nine of the 15 participants.

Hyphens

It is important to be consistent. For example, I have always used e-mail, user name (one word, no hyphen) but online. This is simply my preference. Change if you wish, but please be consistent.

Address details

Avoid all capitals. e.g. Newcastle not NEWCASTLE.

Dates

Avoid ordinal numbers, e.g. use 3 January 1999 or 3rd of January 1999.

Put the number before the month.

Quotations

Quoted text must read and flow well. Long sentences should be broken down for ease and readability.

Case

Article titles and sub-headings should use title case, and not upper case, as in the following example:
Behind the Scenes with the Telematics for Libraries Web Team.

Author Details

Use of 'Z'

Avoid the American use of 'z'
e.g. organise not organize

Internet Terms

Avoid the use of WWW. Use Web
HTML not html

Acronyms

Use upper case.
PRIDE not Pride (Telematics for Libraries project acronym)
PERL not Perl

Plural Acronyms

CDs not CD's or CDS
