The Dublin Core in context

- Dublin Core was originally developed as a tool for the discovery of electronic resources
- although now extended to physical objects, it is still about resource discovery
 - Other initiatives fulfil similar niche roles, such as rights management metadata, administrative metadata, etc.
 - Some initiatives are far more complex, and encompass many of these roles within a single implementation.

- How do we integrate and interoperate?
